At home
Independent Living
Structured, lively homes with shared meals, weekend outings, YMCA membership and in-home support staff. Now accepting applications.
Chapter 01
Structured homes with a lively week
ProjectFREE's independent living homes are built around the idea that adults with diverse abilities can live, learn, work and play in a community with world class independent housing. The homes are structured, lively places, and they are accepting applications now.
What comes with a place is simple to list. Independent housing. Life skills development. Community integration and social engagement. A YMCA membership. Each piece is there so that home is not a separate world from the rest of life at ProjectFREE on 51st Street South in Gulfport, where members already make music, theater and art together.

What a week can hold
The week has a shape. Days are structured, meals are shared, and there are events, weekend outings and recreation on top of the weekday program. The idea is that home is where a person comes back to after a full day, with people they know, not just a place to sleep.
Work is part of the picture too. The homes tie into food truck and cafe operations, performing arts, dessert product development, creative arts and printing, and a candle making business. To be plain about it, the food truck itself is still being built, with the aim of opening in 2026, so treat that part as coming, not running.
Chapter 03
Support that lives in the house
The homes are staffed by highly engaged people, including in-home direct support professionals, and every resident works from an individualized support plan. The environment is meant to be lively and safe at the same time, and the plan is how support is matched to the person rather than the other way around.
